Terms & conditions
The rules for sending and receiving files with Shako. Written to be readable — if anything is unclear, ask us at support@shako.life.
Last updated 7 August 2026
1. This agreement
These terms are a contract between you and Shako covering your use of Shako at https://shako.life. By creating an account, uploading a file or downloading a transfer you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the service.
2. Accounts
You need an account to send transfers. Give accurate details, keep your credentials secure and tell us promptly if you think someone else has accessed your account. You are responsible for activity under your account. Accounts are for a single person; do not share logins.
You must be at least 13, and old enough to enter a contract in your country.
3. What the service does
Shako stores files you upload and makes them available to anyone holding the transfer link, or to the recipients you email, until the transfer expires. Retention windows, monthly allowances, file size limits, branding and API access depend on your plan, as described on our pricing page.
- Free accounts get a monthly allowance with short retention.
- Plus adds longer retention and custom branding on the download page.
- Pro adds API access.
- Choosing a 24 or 48 hour expiry earns bonus transfers, as does deleting transfers early and referring new users. Credits have no cash value, are non-transferable and expire with your account.
We may change, add or withdraw features. Where a change materially reduces a paid plan you have already bought, we will tell you and offer a pro-rata refund of the unused period.
4. Acceptable use
You must not use Shako to store, send or link to:
- Material that infringes copyright, trade marks or other rights you do not hold.
- Child sexual abuse material, terrorist content, or anything illegal under the laws of England and Wales.
- Malware, phishing kits, credential dumps, or content used to attack other systems.
- Harassing, defamatory or unlawfully discriminatory material.
- Unsolicited bulk email, or transfers sent to recipients who did not ask for them.
Nor may you attempt to break, overload, reverse engineer or circumvent the service, its rate limits, quotas or access controls, or resell the service as your own without a written agreement with us.
You keep ownership of your files. You grant us only the licence needed to store, transmit and deliver them for you, and you confirm you have the rights to send what you send.
5. Enforcement
We may remove a transfer, suspend an account or terminate access where we reasonably believe these terms have been broken, where we are legally required to, or where an account threatens the stability or security of the service. Where practical we will tell you first. Report abuse to support@shako.life with the transfer link and a description of the problem.
6. Expiry, deletion and backups
Transfers are deleted permanently when they expire or when you delete them. Expiry is a core feature, not a fault. Shako is a delivery service, not a backup service — keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose. We are not liable for files removed at their scheduled expiry.
7. Pricing, payment and cancellation
Paid plans are billed annually in advance in pounds sterling at the prices shown on the pricing page, inclusive of VAT where applicable. Prices may change for future billing periods, with notice before renewal.
You can cancel at any time; your plan then runs to the end of the paid period and does not renew. UK and EU consumers have a 14-day right to cancel a new purchase; if you have already used the service in that period we may deduct a proportionate amount for what you used. Outside that, unused time is not refunded except as set out in section 3.
8. Availability
We aim to keep Shako available and fast, but we do not promise uninterrupted service. Maintenance, provider outages and events outside our control can cause downtime. Unless we have agreed a written service level with you, the service is provided as is and as available.
9. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Nothing limits your statutory rights as a consumer.
Otherwise, and to the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss of profit, business, goodwill, data or anticipated savings, or for indirect or consequential loss. Our total liability arising from the service in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of the fees you paid us in that period or £50.
You agree to cover losses we suffer from claims caused by files you sent or by your breach of these terms.
10. API use
Pro API keys are secrets: keep them server-side, rotate them if exposed, and do not embed them in client applications. We may rate limit or revoke keys that generate abusive traffic. API behaviour may change with reasonable notice.
11. General
These terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and its courts have exclusive jurisdiction — though consumers may also bring proceedings in their country of residence. If a provision is unenforceable, the rest stands. We may transfer this agreement as part of a sale or reorganisation of the business; you may not transfer it without our consent.
We may update these terms; the current version always lives on this page with its date. Continuing to use Shako after a change means you accept it. Questions go to support@shako.life. Last updated 7 August 2026.
